Perinatal & Parenting Support

Becoming a parent is a profound life transition. Whether you’re preparing for parenthood, adjusting to life with a newborn, navigating the intensity of early parenting or reflecting on how your own upbringing shapes how you parent, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Who is this for?

This service could be for you if you are:

  • Pregnant & feeing anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from experience

  • A new parent struggling with mood changes, identity loss or feeling unlike yourself

  • A parent finding that your own childhood experiences are surfacing in how you respond to your child

  • Navigating the intensity of toddler years & needing support to stay regulated

  • A parent wanting to strengthen your bond with your child

  • Processing a difficult birth, pregnancy loss or complex fertility journey

  • A parent whose relationship is strained by the demands of parenting

What can we help with?

Navigating Perinatal Experiences

Pregnancy & the postpartum period can bring a complex mix of joy, anxiety & unexpected emotions. We can explore mood changes, birth experiences, identity shifts & the emotional challenges of becoming a parent, helping you feel more supported, understood & grounded. Perinatal mental health support is about getting the care you deserve during one of life's most significant transitions.

Attachment & Bonding

The bond between parent & child is powerful but it doesn't always form the way we expect. If you're struggling to feel connected to your baby, worried about your child's attachment or wanting to understand & strengthen your relationship, we can explore this together. Attachment-focused therapy can help you understand your own attachment pattern, how it shapes your parenting & how to build secure, loving connection you want with your child.

Identity Shifts

Becoming a parent can feel like losing touch with you were before. You might be grieving the life you had, questioning your sense of self or feeling like "parent" has eclipsed everything else you are. Therapy can help you honour this transition while reconnecting with the parts of yourself that matter to you so you can parent from a place of wholeness not loss.

Self Care &
Self Compassion

Parents are often hardest on themselves. You might feel guilty for not loving every moment, for losing your temper, or for needing help. We'll work on replacing self criticism with self compassion. When you can treat yourself with kindness, you model that for your child & create more space to be present with them. Self compassion is not a luxury, it can be a important foundation for sustainable parenting.

Relationships Dynamics

Parenting can place significant strain on your relationship with your partner. Differences in parenting styles, sleep deprivation, unequal mental load & the sheer demands of raising children can create distance & conflict.

We can work with you on communication, teamwork, & maintaining connection, helping you navigate this chapter as a team rather than as adversaries.

Impact of Past Trauma
on Parenting

Becoming a parent can bring your own childhood experiences to the surface in unexpected ways. If you've experienced trauma, in childhood, past relationships or during birth, it may shape how you respond to your child, how you feel about yourself as a parent & what gets triggered in difficult moments. We can gently explore these connections, helping you break cycles you don't want to pass on & parent from a place of choice rather than reactivity. This work is about healing for you & the next generation.

How therapy works in the parenting space

In the perinatal & parenting space, therapy is gentle, flexible & centred around your current capacity. The first session is about getting to know you, your experience, & what this season of life has been like. There is no expectation to have the "right words" or to share everything at once. We move at your pace, whether you're navigating pregnancy, adjusting to parenthood, struggling to parent a child/teen or processing a difficult birth or loss. We can include your baby in sessions if needed & we'll work together to find emotional & practical ways to support you. The space is confidential, supportive & focused on helping you feel more grounded, understood & resourced.
